This festival of organ music is part of the programme of the international Organum Histriae project, which is dedicated to organ music and its traditions. This is a long-standing inter-sector project to preserve, restore and revitalise the heritage of organs in Istria. It aims to restore historical organs as valuable parts of sacral architecture and to return restored instruments to their primary function, which is that of musical instruments to be played both in worship and in concerts.
Besides the festival, the project also encompasses publishing, restoration and other activities connected with preserving the heritage of organs. Since 2005, as part of the project, the international "Andrea Antico da Montona" organ festival has been held.
"Organum Histriae" was founded in 1998.
Artistic director: Mario Penzar.
The town of Umag and the Organum Histriae international festival are members of European Cities of Historical Organs (ECHO). The festival is part of the international "Hydraulis" festival, which encourages research into and restoration of organ heritage in countries in the Adriatic region.
