The magnificent architecture and beautiful parks of the Jewel of the Adriatic can take you to another world, a world of fairy tales in which princes are still riding white horses and proposing to their princesses. That is because Opatija is a piece of heritage left by the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy for whose courtiers it was the favourite place of rest. You can meet them all again in the month of July on the streets of Opatija when, with the aim of reviving this atmosphere, the people of Opatija dress up in court clothes and take part in an event which takes the entire town back a few centuries into the past.
