Cory’s shearwater/Calonectris diomedea

Description of the species:
It is brown to grey-brown on the top and white underneath; its beak is large and light coloured. It can have a small white speck on the base of its tail. It usually glides (with bent wings). It nests on rocky islands and cliffs. It produces a sound like hoarse coughing and mourning cries. The wing span is between 100 and 125 cm. 

Protection:
The species is strictly protected by the Ordinance on designating protected and strictly protected wild species (Official Gazette 7/06 and 99/09). According to the Ordinance on penalties for damage caused by illegal actions against protected animal species (Official Gazette 84/96), the penalty for killing a bird is 7,200 kuna.
