If you choose to celebrate Easter on the island of Hvar, you will partake in a celebration that has not changed for five centuries. The Great Thursday and Great Friday procession called Following the Cross, undertaken every year by the folk from the interior of the island, has indeed been held for five hundred consecutive years. This religious custom provides everyone around it with a unique spiritual experience. It is therefore no wonder the good word about the procession attended by the inhabitants of Jelsa, Pitva, Vrisnik, Svirče, Vrbanje and Vrboska has spread a long way and attracted numerous believers. Processions start simultaneously from all six locations, and though they all walk in the same direction, they never actually meet. If you join any of the processions you will never realize you are a part of a much greater whole, but you will feel it in your heart.
